Time to Chill Empty Time to Chill

Wed Oct 18, 2017 8:28 pm
The sun was barely over the horizon, as Hyo left his house to wander the mist covered streets of his village. The place he has called home for as long as he could remember, the near constant dampness, and eerie mist that has practically taken up residence in this small village was more home to him than the snowy mountains he was from. Making his way through the all too familiar path to the office of the Mizukage, his boss, and probably the most fearsome person he had ever had the pleasure of knowing the short Black-haired Jounin would knock on the door. All in all his walk had taken him to well after the sun had made it over the edge, and while this visit may not be expected, it had been a while since Hyo had been called for a mission so he was actually starting to feel kind of restless.

Time to Chill Empty Re: Time to Chill

As the sun began to creep up and light up the horizon, not quite reaching the naked eyes of Kirigakure no Sato, a figure stood atop the building with his eyes wide open. The large sword on his back unfaltering in the torrential sea breeze, his own clothes yearning to return to the shelter of the inside, but he stood unwavering, watching and waiting. Though there was nothing explicitly he seemed to be looking for, he was looking nonetheless; a father searching for his son's ship, a bridge searching for her husband when the war ends. Satisfied the boggeyman was gone for the day, he finally turned around and jumped off the roof, landing on the balcony below and cracking his neck softly.

Taking the bandaged sword off his back, the black-haired male thrust it into the ground behind his seat, the handle facing him as he sat down, a ritual that had been performed so many times that the village had opted to make it a slot for him rather than breaking the floor regularly. Sighing lightly, he reached into the drawer to his right and pulled out a stack of files and folder, scanning over them softly. It had been sixty seven days since Yuki Hyo had been given any sort of assignment, and if he knew his Jōnin as well as he let off than he'd be visiting today... and soon.

Truth was, Kirigakure was in a time of peace and distraught. There wasn't much that he could do to help, aside from return the fish to the sea and make everyone rich and relaxed, that a Genin couldn't do. There was nothing to warrant his pay grade in their requests, and he'd made that painfully obvious to all the higher ranked Shinobi who came knocking on his door. Their Academy had dried up as much as the Sea itself did, and there wasn't even a particularly large influx of Genin to warrant giving him a Team. Short of handing off his own Daughter in Law...

Well, Rena hadn't been given a Team yet. She was gifted in the was of her clan, she knew what she was doing, and since his own son, and her husband, had died... it wasn't like she was busy with anything else, at least.

Reaching into the bottom drawer on his left, the male pulled out a much larger stack of folders and began to sift through them, his eyes scanning them all as he looked for specific details; if they were not present in the folder, he put it back in the drawer, otherwise he put it to the side. By the time he finished the stack of folders, only seven were put to the side. He sighed again softly and placed his hands on his temples, his eyes still wide open at the folders in front of him as he heard the steps in the hallway. In one swift motion, he stood up, grabbed the sword behind him, and was at the door right as the first knock came through, opening it immediately.

Staring down his Jōnin Yuki Hyo, the male turned back around and repeated his earlier action, thrusting the sword into the slot made for it behind his seat as he sat back down. Without a word, he held out Lisola Rena's file, his eyes trained on Hyo as he would take and read it, expectedly. If Hyo hadn't already been a Jōnin of Kirigakure for so long, the fact that Mitsuo never blinked would probably bother him. As it were, he waited to see what Hyo would say about the file.

Hyo's knuckles barely contacted the door before his boss had opened the door, watching his boss walk back to his desk and place his sword back in its slot before sitting down. Hyo followed Mitsuo into the office, sitting down in the seat on the other side of him as Hyo was offered the file. Sitting there the short black haired jounin flipped through the file, seeing that it belonged a white-eyed young kunoichi, named Rena, the file listed her as talented in ninjutsu, with an affinity for Suiton, an element that Hyo himself was quite familiar with. There was also small note about her being a Hyuuga, a clan famous for their skill with taijutsu and rather unique fighting style. "Based off of this file, I am guessing she isn't a target so that leaves you assigning me to be her teacher. By her file I can see why that would be a good idea, Suiton is one of my strongest suits. You also know full well my proficiency in close quarters combat, as you bequeathed Nuibari to me yourself"

Hyo would place the file back onto Mitsuo's desk folding his hands on his lap to wait for Mitsuo's assessment of his statement. Teaching wasn't exactly a skill he excelled at, but he supposed he could do it in a pinch if need be. Anything would be better than spending more time sitting around the dojo he called home doing absolutely nothing but honing his skills with his blade. Alot of good those skills are if he didn't have anyone, or anything he could truly try them against.

Hyo scanned the file and realized that he would be her Sensei, claiming his proficiencies matching her own, placing the file back on Mitsuo's desk and folding his hands as he waited for Mitsuo to reply. Placing the file over to the right, by itself, Mitsuo kept his piercing blue eyes trained on Hyo as he changed his tone drastically, something Hyo would have only seen two or three times in his entire life: Mitsuo closed his eyes.

"Five years ago, the villages of Konohagakure and Kirigakure were in a tense situation. The Hokage at the time wanted to calm things down, and offered me something that I couldn't refuse: a pure-blooded Hyūga. Naturally, I accepted this offer, the brewing war settled down, and Rena Hyūga was brought to the village by members of our ANBU forces. The moment he laid eyes on her, a Chūnin of our village requested that he be allowed to marry her. Since she was given to us as... property, to an extent, I approved of it. She took on his name, abandoning her Hyūga clan, and devoted herself to his life and the Village as a whole. Rena Lisola is the name she chose, to signify to me that she was devoted to Kirigakure, so I would approve of her attending the Academy here and learning the nuances of our village."

Opening his eyes again, a small amount of water was formed in them as Mitsuo looked down at the file and traced his finger over it softly, sighing audibly and closing them again.

"You may not have seen her around, nor heard of her, because this was all swept under the rug due to... who requested her hand in marriage. You should remember his name, his death was almost exactly a year ago today... Hashimoto Mizuchi. My son." Opening them again, he looked back at Hyo and, even through his mask, it was clear he was lightly smiling at remembering his son and his Daughter in Law, then nodded to Hyo briefly. "We're struggling, as a Village, in these times. I need to know that you can handle at least one team, because I can't have liabilities on my hands. I lost my son already Hyo, don't lose my daughter too." Handing over the stack of folders on his left, Mitsuo motioned to them. "These are the other Genin in Kirigakure without an active team or duty. Take your pick, form the team you think is the most balanced or efficient, and we'll discuss your duties from there."

Hyo would sit there, listening to the Mizukage's explanation behind how Rena, a pure blooded Hyuuga had made it to Kirigakure, and how she had managed to stay under the radar in Kiri for so long, Though the fact that his eyes had been closed for most of the retelling, and when they were opened they were watering was something that Hyo had not seen before. Atleast not from the man before him was enough for the young jounin to know exactly how important this assignment was to Mitsuo. The last think Hyo would do, would be to let his boss down, especially on this. "Understood, and don't worry, I will do all in my power to keep her alive, and train her well. Unfortunately, if she desires to be a ninja, Safe can not be promised, not that I need to tell you that."

Picking up the other folders Hyo had flipped through a couple of others, the first one was a Genin who had skill in Genjutsu, and while it would have been a wonderful addition in the form of a support member, it was not a person that Hyo himself could train efficiently, nor would he know hot to utilize him effectively. Placing that folder back when he was done, he moved onto the next. Now this one seemed promising, a young Genin from a clan known for ninjutsu proficiency, he was also the host to the Seven tails Bijuu, an annoying bug, but it's power could prove useful if he could teach him how to utilize it properly. There was also a note of him carrying around a blade, meaning that even if he didn't have the proficiency for Kenjutsu, he probably had the desire to learn it. His Affinity was the only problem that Hyo could see, according to the notes, the paper had turned to dirt signalling that he was proficient in Doton, which was something that the icy Yuki couldn't teach him. Though it would make it harder for them to stumble across someone, or a group of someones whose affinities completely shut them down. Though that would mean to balance them out he should find someone whose strengths are mid-long range, or could be a good support.

Taking Aizen's file and placing it down next to Rena's, in a way that Mitsuo would be able to easily see who he had selected so far Hyo went back through his search.

Unfortunately, if she desires to be a ninja, Safe can not be promised, not that I need to tell you that.

Funny... his own son had said almost the same words about her, yet it was him who had never returned from that mission. As Hyo scanned through the folders, placing some back to the side and taking his time with the Jinchūriki, Mitsuo leaned back in his chair, inhaled through his nose, and let his eyes drift to the left, staring out the window over the sea.

Funny... even after these years had passed, he still expected to see his Son's boat crest over the horizon in a fashionable return, victorious and prideful. He'd laugh and shrug off the fact that he's been gone for years, would return immediately to loving his wife and cheering up the general populace. His loss was one which hurt the entire village, and as the Mizukage, Mitsuo had to stand strong and take his mantle.

Funny... that was what he was supposed to do, but he didn't want to do it. Hyo placed the folder on top of Rena's, signifying he'd accepted that Genin, and returned to looking through the other folders for the final candidate for his team. Mitsuo nodded silently and reached into the top right drawer, pulling out a notebook and placing it in front of him, flipping through it as he scanned the pages, attempting to find something that these shinobi would be worthy of, and though Hyo would likely be too strong for this mission, it was more a way to have him test his team. There was nothing in the E-Rank, only a few D-Rank, some C-Rank.. sighing, Mitsuo would keep thinking about it at least until Hyo had made his final selection.

Hyo flipped through the remaining folders taking his time as he went, looking over all of the details in their files, however none of them seemed to fit, for the most part, he wouldn't be able to train them, either their skills were in places he couldn't help improve, or he just had a strong feeling that they wouldn't mesh. The pile of rejects grew one by one as the stack in his hand diminished, he was down to the last two files before he created a third pile for 'maybe'. As he opened up the last file he skimmed through it line by line hoping to find something to help sway his final decision. And there it was, this last member was another Hyuuga, though unlike Rena, she seemed to have taken up an interest in the way of the sword. Something that Hyo could help with, alot better than with Jyuuken, but the two of them could easily help train each other, learn the motions of their clan's unique fighting style.

A smile spread across the spiky haired jounin as he continued to read the file liking this choice more and more with each line he read. Finally his decision was officially made, dropping the file of one Hyuuga Katsumi on the pile with Rena and Aizen. Looking up at his boss who had started flipping through his notebook Hyo would explain the reaoning behind his choices, "That should do it, I can teach Rena Suiton with ease and help her train physically though her clan's Taijutsu style is beyond me, Katsumi can help there, well the pair of them can help each other learn it. Aizen would give us a unique element, and his Bijuu will make him a useful weapon, and if I can help him learn to use that sword he was fond of carrying properly then he will be able to help me keep Rena alive. This is the team best suited to not only for my abilities to teach, but for the growth of each of the individuals, at least from the files I was provided, oh and if the Seven Tails starts to slip then their ability to strike the Tenketsu can help keep him in check, at least until we get a proper Fuuinjutsuist anyways."

"Seems like you have your team then." The Mizukage spoke as he stood up and stepped towards the window without delay, staring out over the sea as he continued, his solemn tone revealing his degree of seriousness. "Your first mission will be to hunt a bear on a nearby island. It'll take you about 20 minutes by boat to get to the island, tracking and killing the bear is exclusively on you and your team. I expect no casualties, Yuki."

Walking back in front of the desk, Mitsuo rubbed his chin lightly as he stood next to Hyo, lightly in thought. It could take a while for them to track down the bear... but the rewards were well worth it. There wasn't any Ryō in this mission, but he could dive into his own pocket if necessary. Pulling out a notepad, Mitsuo scribbled down a few lines using his quill, the scratchy ink hard to read as his quill was nearly out of ink.

"Toshiro Mori owes me a personal favor, he'll give you passage to the island when you give him this note. He's still in town, I'll make sure he stays for a few days until you can get the team together. You are to bring nothing but what you absolutely require: any food or water necessary shall be acquired on the mission." Sitting down at his desk, Mitsuo placed the quill in the inkwell and returned his gaze to his Jōnin. "This may prove to be a challenge, but I have faith in you. Once you track down and slay the bear, bring it with you on your return to Kirigakure. The meat is very nutritous, and will help us in these trying times. Consider this a C-Rank Mission, as the Bear does pose a threat. Be careful Yuki -- Dismissed."

Turning his attention back to the folders in front of him, Mitsuo sighed lightly as he realized there were still too many ninja and not enough missions, separating them once again and starting over from the top.

"I guess I do," Hyo would say, keeping his face relatively neutral. He knew that he was going to be taking on an extremely large responsibility, it wasn't just protecting Rena, and the other Genin. But teaching them, practically raising them to be productive members of his dying little village. Taking the note that his Kage offered Hyo bowed slightly "The mission will get taken care of by the end of the week one way or another. I am planning on gathering them and testing their teamwork tomorrow, and depending on how they do we will leave the following day. But if they can't get their act together and work together then one or more of them will be left behind."

With that statement he deepened his bow, the pressure of the assignment building up with his excitement at the chance to finally be able to pass on his skills and knowledge to the next generation in a meaningful manner. Slipping the note into the pocket of his coat he would leave the office and make his way out to the village, arranging the notes for each genin on his team.
